Email Spam Tester vs MailGenius
MailGenius gives a free spam score and sells placement, AI copy review and monitoring on top. What each gives you for free, and what each does with your sending address.
Pick Email Spam Tester if
- you want the folder at Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo in the free test, from real mailboxes
- you would rather your sending address did not join anybody's mailing list
- you want to see which blocklists were checked, by name
- you want a free API or work in a language other than English
Pick MailGenius if
- you want every email you send tested automatically
- you want blocklist monitoring with alerts for many domains
- you want an AI rewrite of your copy and access to a consulting team
Run both tests on the same email
The fairest comparison is your own message. Get an address, send the email you were going to test anyway, and put the two reports next to each other.

Before the test starts
MailGenius asks for a CAPTCHA before each free test, and its home page says the address you send from will receive emails from MailGenius. Its results sit on public links.
Here there is no CAPTCHA and no list. The sending address appears in the report, because the checks are about it, and we never send email to it. The report sits at a link with a random 20-character code, readable by anyone who has the link, so share it only with the people who should see it.
Simulated or observed
MailGenius describes its placement as simulating inbox behaviour across Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo, and as placement previews. It does not say how the simulation works or which mailboxes are behind it. New users get three placement tests; after that, placement is on paid plans.
Email Spam Tester sends nothing anywhere on your behalf and simulates nothing. You send your email to real inboxes at each provider, with a marker in the subject, and the report shows the folder each mailbox put it in: inbox, promotions, spam, or not seen at all.
What MailGenius sells that this does not
Its top plan tests every email you send automatically and monitors blocklists for unlimited domains with alerts. Its paid plans add an AI consultant and an AI rewrite of your copy, and the company behind it does deliverability consulting. Email Spam Tester checks the messages you send to it and does not watch anything in the background.
What people who tried it said
I took a closer look at it, and it convinced me. […] Every warning names the RFC section behind it. You don't have to believe the tool, you can check it.
Translated from GermanIch habe ihn mir genauer angesehen, und er hat mich überzeugt. […] Jede Warnung nennt die zugrunde liegende RFC-Stelle. Man muss dem Tool nicht glauben, man kann es nachprüfen.
If you send emails and you don't know where they land, it's a simple first check. And it costs nothing.
I just tried your tool and I really like it - good job!
Questions
Is MailGenius free?
The basic spam test is free and needs no account, after a CAPTCHA. Inbox placement is free for a new user's first three tests. Paid plans cost $29, $49 and $97 a month, or less billed yearly.
Does MailGenius add me to a mailing list?
Its home page says: "The sending email address will receive emails from MailGenius." Email Spam Tester does not send email to the addresses it tests.
Is MailGenius inbox placement real?
MailGenius describes it as simulating inbox behaviour and as placement previews, without naming the mailboxes involved. Email Spam Tester reads the folder from real mailboxes at each provider after you send to them.
Which one is better for agencies?
If you need every client's email tested automatically, MailGenius' automatic plan does that. If you run tests by hand or from a script and want to share a report link with a client, Email Spam Tester does it for free, and has an API.
